According to a new study, smartphones, which are believed to cause weak mental health, can actually be part of the solution: a mobile application can give people easy depression skills.
Although one out of every 10 people around the world is diagnosed with great depression, he experiences “subsporanticular depression”, which seriously affects the quality of life.
Cognitive -behavioral therapy (CIS), which is effective for overcoming such depression, is focused on a change in unhealthy thinking and behaviors of behavior and is often considered as drug treatment even more effective.
However, from the absence of psychiatrists around the world, the demand for such psychiatric services significantly exceeds the demand for such psychiatric services.
CIS “extremely effective”, but there is a problem
In a new study published in the journal Nature Medicine, it was tested whether the application for a CIS smartphone will help.
The application was focused on the development of the five main BTT skills: in order for people to improve their mood, reconsider the negative thoughts standing behind their feelings of depression, improve their skills to solve the problem, help them express themselves, without causing harm to their feelings and allow them to sleep enough.
Toshiaki Furukawa, professor of the editor -in -chief and Tokyo University of Research, said in his statement: “CIS is extremely effective, but it was always difficult to use it on a large scale,” he said.
“Our goal was to make everyone can use these skills anywhere.”
For the experiment, approximately 4,000 adult Japanese with six threshold depression were randomly prescribed for use or not to use the application.
The use of the application had access to various combinations of BDT skills. They, as a rule, stopped using the application six -10 weeks after the end of classes.
The mental health of those who use use was better, and the levels of depression, anxiety and insomnia were lower. The results remained valid for six months, when the study ended.
Recognized results of the study
The results were remarkable because there were conflicting conclusions that the CIS applications could really improve mental health.
24 In the analysis of the study, short and telephone interventions can help alleviate the symptoms of psychological discomfort.
However, in another study related to the EU, personal development methods did not give positive results. It is believed that this is due to the center of attention of students with a low level of risk without significant history of depression.
In a new study, some CIS skills were more effective in certain conditions than others.
For example, methods aimed at improving mood and sleep patterns are effective in reducing anxiety and increasing mental serenity; Tools for correcting negative thoughts were not so successful.
The research group is currently preparing for an experiment for a longer time and is aimed at certain mental health problems.
“We can use this information to develop personalized interventions. This can make a path for more effective and long -term support systems, says FuruKawa.
