* Governor highlights that sports help young people develop as people with values
** 3,654 students participate in athletics, basketball, soccer, handball, volleyball, badminton, and chess
Colima, Col.- The governor of Colima, Indira Vizcaíno Silva, inaugurated the state stage of the School Sports Games at the secondary level, in which 3,654 students from the ten municipalities of the entity participated in athletics, basketball, soccer, handball, volleyball, badminton and chess, in an event that took place this Wednesday morning in the auditorium of the ‘José María Morelos y Pavón’ sports unit.
He stated that sports will always help young people develop values such as respect, honesty, camaraderie, collaboration, and teamwork; “qualities that I assure you will help you for the rest of your lives, in every goal you set for yourself.”
Indira Vizcaíno added that, for the State Government, the true triumph of these competitions is that girls, boys, and adolescents can develop their skills and abilities. These state events also serve as important training grounds where students can demonstrate their strong aptitude, desire, and interest in excelling in sports.
Adolfo Núñez González, Secretary of Education and Culture, invited participants to enjoy this national stage of the School Games, as he believed it will be a lasting memory for each and every participant. “We are very proud of your participation; we are delighted to see the great enthusiasm and sportsmanship of this great gathering across seven sports disciplines.”
He acknowledged the great work Governor Indra Vizcaíno has done in sports and emphasized that the holding of these School Sports Games joins the many other physical and recreational activities carried out by the state government for the benefit of health and prevention.
The ceremony was also attended by the rector of the University of Colima, Christian Jorge Torres Ortiz Zermeño, representatives of the people, members of the state and federal cabinet, as well as municipal presidents, who personally accompanied their respective delegations of high school students.
