Battery-monitoring integrated circuit
August 2010 Email to a friend   Comment on this article
The MAX11068 from Maxim Integrated Products is a high-voltage, 12-cell, battery-monitoring integrated circuit for the large lithium-ion battery stacks in hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles, and any system that stacks long-series strings of batteries.

Battery monitoring integrated circuit This highly integrated solution employs a proprietary SMBus-laddered communication bus that allows up to 31 MAX11068s to be daisy-chained together to monitor as many as 372 cells without costly isolators. According to Maxim, this approach reduces battery-management system cost by up to 80% while simplifying battery pack design and precisely balancing cells for maximum energy delivery. The IC consumes 75% less board space than discrete designs. Featuring accuracy, ultralow power consumption, built-in safety and diagnostic features, as well as configurability, the MAX11068 offers a solution for problems associated with safely monitoring large battery stacks and accurately balancing cells.
