ZF Sachs' Nivomat self-leveling dampening system will be a component of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee's available trailering package. The system includes self leveling shock absorbers that help ensure the optimal vehicle ride height, for greater safety, fuel economy and passenger comfort when towing or when the vehicle is loaded with cargo. ZF will also supply select axle systems to the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
"The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee promises to be a benchmark in the industry for capability and comfort, and we are proud to contribute technology that helps it achieve that status," says Carlos Delich, CEO, ZF Sachs suspension NAFTA.
The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the latest vehicle from Chrysler Group to incorporate the proven Nivomat technology. Other current models include Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Chrysler 300 and 300C, Chyrsler Sebring AWD, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Magnum SRT8 and Dodge Charger.
Nivomat counters the negative effects of loads, including towing a trailer, by helping maintain the vehicle's optimal ride hight. The system replaces conventional shock absorbers on the rear axle, taking the energy derived from the relative movement between the wheels and vehicle body to energize the system, which maintains level position. Since Nivomat maintains ride height for every load, it prevents the vehicle's center of gravity from shifting, which helps keep the vehicle balanced and safe in all conditions.
"Constant heavy or changing loads, along with the unique dynamics of towing a trailer, place great demands on the vehicle and the driver," says Dr. Stefan Sommer, Senior Vice President of the Suspension Components strategic business unit of ZF Sachs AG. "Nivomat ensures consistent performance and a more balanced driving feel, regardless of the load or driving conditions."
