Fast reacting and bonding adhesives are said to eliminate any need for any mechanical fasteners in automotive bonding processes.
Exterior systems supplier Decoma International approached Huntsman Advanced Materials for a solution. Project engineer Karl-Heinz Schneider says: “Traditional bonding methods involve the use of screws or rivets to securely bond exterior panels to a car’s A-frame. By using the Agomet F300 and Agomet Hardener Lacquer 2, we have eliminated the need for screws and rivets and are able to provide our customers with perfect optical exteriors.”
F300 is a fast curing methacrylate adhesive for separate surface applications that can join dissimilar substrates at ambient temperatures.
In an automotive A-column bonding application Hardener Lacquer 2 can be sprayed onto the aluminium parts hours, or even days, before the required bonding process. F300 is then applied to the surface and the parts are fixed together.
Parts bonded with F300 canbe handled after two to four minutes of the bonding process.
