Delphi says its new press-fit compliant-pin automotive electrical connection system is an approach widely used in telecom and aerospace industries for bringing together a connector component and a printed circuit board.
The solder-free, lead-free system can be used to attach a PCB to a housing or other connector component in under-the-bonnet, airbag, antilock brakes, impact sensors, key fobs, telematics and infotainment.
A press-fit connection is made between a PCB with a plated through-hole and a connector sporting comparatively oversized compliant pins. Delphi calls it an “eye-of-the-needle” design.
“This allows customers a single-point answer for mechanical integration, thus enabling them to focus key resources on their core electronics competency,” says Delphi.
