Brushless blowers extend HVAC system life
01/03/2005 Email to a friend   Comment on this article
Commercial vehicles and buses need ultra-reliable systems to maximise their usage and revenue earning potential.

Contributing to these goals is a brushless DC centrifugal blower developed by ebm-papst Automotive & Drives targeted at air-conditioning systems for buses and coaches, front boxes (duct heaters), refrigerated transport systems, and cabin air-conditioning for tractors and trucks.

The K3G blower—the company’s second generation of brushless blowers—includes a specially designed ASIC and more component integration resulting in a smaller component count and reduced number of solder joints.

Designed to give trouble-free operation in excess of 25,000 operating hours, the blower has an advanced micro-controller offering simple speed control and diagnostic functions. A wide range of automotive operating voltages are covered within the range and power de-rating ensures that the unit is able to perform at maximum capacity without risk of overload.

Impellers are made from an impact resistant, modified acid-proof and alkaline-resistant polymer, resulting in safe, low noise operation over a wide temperature range. The motor shaft is stainless steel.

Protection is to IP24KM (without plug) and the unit’s motor is protected for over temperature, reserve battery and locked-rotor, load dump, and under-voltage.
