Digital map data provider Navteq has developed a new suite of visual content designed to improve digital maps in location-based and navigation applications with relevant images.

“Consumers with whom we’ve conducted research are wowed by the visual impact of these images,” said Cliff Fox, senior vice president, Navteq Map. They are seen to have value in providing context, helping users both to follow the maps and even anticipate their system’s guidance instructions.

The company’s locally based geographic analysts helped define the boundaries of the coverage areas for city model content to include those most important to both local people and visitors.Landmarks are chosen based on regional popularity, location, historical and architectural significance.

“Visual content is geo-referenced to the Navteq map and has, where necessary, been manually aligned with the existing street network to ensure accurate routing and correct placement in relation to other parts of the road.3D city models and landmarks are available for major cities in Europe, North America and Asia.
