Latest CarSim includes K&S test check

Version 7 of MSC’s CarSim dynamics and performance testing software is said to have a substantially improved architecture, extending the possibilities for customising and extending the models.

The upgraded software includes the VehicleSim command language that allows users to change some of the existing equations, add new output variables, add new equations and change the units associated with the parameters and output variables. And integration with other software has been extended to provide extensive control options. A standard application program interface (API) can be used with any Windows simulation environment as well as in real-time applications.

Also included is an easier-to-use simulation graphical user interface (SGUI) for new users to navigate the database, as well as a wide variety of options for advanced users to work with external software. The SGUI uses point-and-click controls to change model parameters, equations and optional links to other software such as Simulink.

When using vehicle dynamics simulation programs, users have to input hundreds of variables to describe the vehicle under test. One category of vehicle data that is always suspect is the data set for suspension properties. Users can experimentally measure the properties on Kinematics and Compliance (K&C) machines but need to have confidence that the data set entered into the simulation accurately reflects the experimental results.

CarSim 7 includes a K&C test as an example in the software. Thus, when a user wants to check the validity of a suspension data set, CarSim 7 can run a suspension K&C test comparable with the one that was run experimentally. The simulated response curves can be compared with the equivalent experimental plots. Or, experimental data can be entered into CarSim in ERD format and plotted as an overlay on simulation plots
